Position Overview:
We are seeking enthusiastic and passionate individuals to join our team as Volunteer International Summer Camp Counselors at the University of Toronto. As a counselor, you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of international campers while gaining valuable experience in a multicultural setting. This is a volunteer position during our summer camp program.

Before you apply:
・Your English level needs to be advanced or fluent. If you do not meet this minimum requirement, please do not apply, as you will not pass the interview.
・You must be able to commit min 4 weeks during the camp period (6/22-8/11)
・You must be able to commit minimum 3 shifts/week to this position
・You must commit at least one of full days of the weekends (Saturday or Sunday)
・You must sign a Declaration of No Criminal Record or run a Criminal Check

Shifts:
・Weekday morning (8:30am-12:30pm)
・Weekday afternoon (12:30pm-5pm)
・Weekday evening (6:00pm-10:00pm)
・Weekend all day (8:00am-5:00pm)

Responsibilities:
・Camper Supervision: Provide round-the-clock supervision and support to international campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and positive engagement.
・Activity Planning and Facilitation: Plan and lead a variety of age-appropriate and culturally inclusive activities, including team-building exercises, sports, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, cultural workshops, and games.
・Cultural Exchange and Language Support: Foster a multicultural environment by encouraging campers to share their cultures and traditions. Provide language support in Japanese, Spanish, or Mandarin (Chinese) when necessary to facilitate effective communication among campers.
・Group Dynamics and Conflict Resolution: Promote positive group dynamics and facilitate conflict resolution among campers. Teach and model appropriate behavior and interpersonal skills, encouraging mutual respect, inclusivity, and cooperation.
・Mentorship and Role Modeling: Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating leadership, integrity, and empathy. Provide guidance and support in personal growth, character development, and independence.
・Safety and Emergency Preparedness: Ensure compliance with safety protocols and emergency procedures. Supervise campers during activities, meals, transportation, and rest periods to maintain a safe and secure environment.
・Camper Evaluation and Feedback: Observe and assess camper performance, participation, and behavior. Provide constructive feedback and recognition to encourage personal growth and achievement.
・Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with fellow counselors and staff members to create a cohesive and supportive camp community. Assist in coordinating and executing camp-wide events and special programs.
・Administrative Tasks: Complete necessary administrative tasks, such as attendance records, incident reports, and camper evaluations, in a timely and accurate manner.
・Parent and Staff Communication: Maintain open and proactive communication with parents, addressing inquiries, providing updates on camper progress, and addressing any concerns or issues that arise.

Qualifications:
Experience: Previous experience working with children or teenagers in a camp, educational, or recreational setting is preferred but not required.
・Cultural Competence: Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures, with the ability to create an inclusive and respectful environment.
・Language Proficiency: Proficiency in Japanese, Spanish, or Mandarin (Chinese) is required to facilitate communication with campers from different linguistic backgrounds.
・Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in additional languages is a plus.
・Leadership Abilities: Proven ability to lead, inspire, and motivate campers. Experience in mentoring or coaching is desirable.
・Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with and relate to campers from various backgrounds. Empathy, patience, and a positive attitude are essential.
・Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Ability to think quickly and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and camp program needs.
・First Aid and CPR Certification: Current certification in first aid and CPR is a plus but not required.
・Team Player: Collaborative spirit with the willingness to work as part of a team to achieve common goals.
・Availability: Ability to commit to the full duration of the summer camp program, including pre-camp training and orientation.
