おはよう！ジェイムズです。
よろしく。
Recently, I got a new job working in downtown. I'm looking for some nice friends to hang out with after work. It can be study in the library, or eating/drinking. My Japanese is not bad, but not good also, so maybe we can mix Japanese/English. 私は日本を10回訪れたことがあります。

I don't care gender or age. I am 27, Canadian. I was born in Vancouver, and I lived in Toronto for 18 years. My job is kind of Programmer at IT internet company. My family history is German/Austrian.

I live in East Toronto. So I was thinking to hang out in downtown after work to avoid rush-hour for driving.

Hi, James.

Well, how are you so sure Japan is cool enough to like? You might be obsessed to some kind of wrong info about Japan. There is countless shitty Japanese things tho? It's like people disrespect one another although we are apparently polite (japanese politeness is just made up somehow).

If you truely like japanese culture, people or something else reated with japan, you have to know nasty japanese things, or you would got hatred about us that I don't want you to be.

So, I wish you find nice friends there.

To be honest, I know all about that stuff. Actually I can always recognize it. The shitty societal pressure, the kind of acting you described, the patriarchal culture there. I studied the Japanese healthcare and education issues in university too No culture is perfect, especially Japanese culture. But same with Canadian culture. I like Japan for many reasons, but I also recognize it's faults. I've been meeting language exchange friends and visiting Japan over the last 10 years almost.

I hope I can bring some Canadian honestly and optimism to my Japanese friends' lives and they can trust in me and enjoy with me. :-)

I think looking for a friends like this, people will be more skeptical of your motivation.

There are many guys who believes Japanese girls are easy targets, and they are looking for next girl to hunt all the time, It is unfortunate, but true.

I know few girls over the years who were raped, sexually harassed, etc because of contacting wrong person through 'looking for a Japnese friend' thing like this on Internet.

May be you are not like these guys, but most of Japanese people would think it's too risky to contact you.

Get out there and meet Japanese people in real life. That's my advice.

Hey bud, as another Canadian guy I wouldn't recommend meeting people on here.

I've done it a few times and here are types of people that you'll meet.

1. Japanese guys that just want to speak English all the time and use you as a free English teacher. They also just want to brag about having 'Canadian friends'

2. Really ugly Japanese girls

Actually, if you've been to Japan you probably know that the Japanese girls that come here are really ugly. All you are getting are Japan's leftovers lol

As a Japanese guy, I wouldn't recommend meeting Canadian guys here either. They write that age and gender don't matter but their only purpose is to meet Japanese girls who are younger than 23 and have casual dates and hopefully physical relationships. It's such a waste of time to learn broken English from Canada's leftovers anyway. No. 44 is a great example.

Just go finds some friends who are working just like you, and who are fluent in English. It will be so much easier for you to make new friends.
